How Recommendation Scores Are Calculated

How we calculate recommendation scores

The score uses "official inclusion + traveler interest." Official and public sources help decide whether an item belongs on the site, while verified ratings, review volume, recent discussion, search interest, and on-site engagement shape the visible recommendation.

What the score means

The recommendation score is a reference indicator that helps travelers compare attractions, local products, and travel content more quickly. It is not an official ranking or an absolute guarantee of quality.

Signals we review

  1. Official listings, public references, or reliable travel sources that support inclusion.
  2. Traveler ratings and review counts from verifiable map, travel, or public review sources.
  3. One-year and five-year activity changes that help show whether interest is still current.
  4. Search interest, social discussion, and on-site engagement that reflect traveler attention.
  5. Data completeness and verification quality; weak data is treated conservatively.

How the score is formed

The system first checks whether the content has enough basis for inclusion. Traveler ratings, review volume, recent activity, search, and engagement signals are then converted into a heat score and presented as a public recommendation score from 1 to 100. When sources are incomplete or recent signals are unclear, the score may be hidden or weighted lower in ordering.

What the score does not mean

The score is not a government endorsement, not a paid ranking, and not a promise that every traveler will have the same experience. If a page contains cooperation, advertising, or commercial information, the page label should be followed; ordinary recommendation scoring does not use payment as a boost.

Updates and limits

Scores may change as data is refreshed. An official list does not automatically mean something is currently popular; if recent data is insufficient, we do not describe it as a current hot spot. Travel details may still change because of weather, opening hours, events, or delays in source platforms, so travelers should confirm details before departure.
